Abstract
In this study, we investigated the protective effects of lamb placenta on UVB-induced keratinocytes and 3-isobutyl-1-methylxanthine (IBMX)-induced melanocytes. HaCaT cells were stimulated by UVB 50 mJ/cm2, which induced increases in cell death and pro-inflammatory cytokine production and decreases in hyaluronic acid synthase (HAS) mRNA expression. However, placenta treatment inhibited UVB-induced cell death and pro-inflammatory cytokine production and increased HAS. In IBMX-induced melanocytes, placenta treatment suppressed melanin production. In addition, placenta treatment directly inhibited tyrosinase activation. In conclusion, these results show that lamb placenta has protective effects against UVB-induced keratinocyte damage and IBMX-induced melanocytes. Thus, we suggest that lamb placenta is effective as a cosmeceutical ingredient.
